Description
NEON-BBS Node #4 v4.2.2 is a browser bulletin board with a simulated 9600 baud terminal. It runs on PHP and MySQL. Visitors read boards, post and reply under a nickname, play a three-digit ICE game, and buy fictional cyberdeck upgrades. The SysOp manages boards and posts from terminal commands or from a separate admin dashboard.
WHAT YOU GET
– The terminal front end, install.php, an upgrade SQL file for an existing v4.2.1 board, admin.php, and the included Apache .htaccess.
– Sample content created by the installer, plus boards and posts the SysOp can edit.
– Commands documented in the README, including help, boards, list, read, post, reply, play, deck, and shop. sysop plus the admin passphrase opens operator commands.
– Admin editing for system text, boards, posts, and player credits and decks.
– A SysOp account named admin. You choose a passphrase of at least 12 characters during installation. The installer creates db.php on your server (mode 0600). Keep that file out of any copy you redistribute.
KEY DETAILS
– PHP 8.1 or newer with PDO MySQL and mbstring.
– MySQL 8 or a compatible server. The database account must be allowed to create the selected database and its tables.
– A PHP web server. HTTPS is recommended, especially for SysOp use.
– Upload the folder with db.php absent. Open install.php. The installer refuses a database that already has BBS settings and will not drop existing tables.
– Each browser keeps a private key for its nicknames in local storage. Clearing that storage drops access to those profiles.
WHAT THIS IS NOT
– Not a tamper-proof game economy. The ICE game runs in the browser. Credits and deck upgrades are casual fictional game state.
– Not real money, a wallet, or a payment system.
– Not encrypted private messaging or a verified-account network.
– Not WordPress.
